 June 2009

WOW!  We are off and running!  What a beautiful spring!  Great opportunities abound
to get out and play regardless of whether we are on temporary greens, tarped greens,
or just Alaskan greens!  I have been so happy to see our winter travelers trickling back
to reunite with those of us who have endured Alaska’s challenges. Welcome back
everyone!

We are just getting started.  We just had our Spring Luncheon with the theme “Jewels in
the Rough” and it was a great event.   A big thank you goes out to our co-chairs of the
luncheon, Trish Sutter and Faby Membrila.  It was fun to hear what was going on with
our pros and the courses. We have many new members that we’re so happy to
welcome.  We had a great time, caught up, ordered new AWGA logo wear, and signed
up for all the upcoming events.

The Ladies Day at Palmer with the Planting of the Posey’s was delightful and Belle,
Marie, Hanni and their team should be recognized for a great day and great fun.  The
weather was wonderful and the folks at Palmer went above and beyond!  Thank you!
The 3-day tournament is one of the highlights of our season and a great way to make
our organization stronger with new members and reacquainting with existing members.
This year is no different and Belle Johnson and her amazing committee have once again
surpassed all expectations and delivered a great tournament filled with fun,
camaraderie, and a welcoming spirit!  Just what the AWGA is all about!

Team Play has begun and Match Play begins soon.  If you have not signed up for Match
Play yet, get a hold of Sue Gatewood as soon as possible.  This is your chance to play
the game you love with a different focus and will be great fun.

Finally, congratulations to all the ladies who played in the Women’s Amateur Public Links
Qualifier in Palmer on June 3rd.  Fifteen women played on a glorious day and 3 will head
to Massachusetts at the end of the month to represent the great state of Alaska.  Great
job ladies! (for further details go to agagolf.org.)

Coming soon is the Rally for a Cure® and the Moose Run Tournament.  Check our
website and get your applications in as soon as possible!  The Rally sells out every
year, but volunteers are always needed! Fun is GUARANTEED!  Please join us!
